RATS Quickstart Guide

Depending on what you mean by quick and start, this is the page you have been looking for!

Step 1) Make sure you have tint setup so you can install a package.

Step 2) Get the latest version of the package rats_#.#_RUSOS_1. (#.# == latest version number)

Step 3) Send two keys to rats_support@email (keys should be two dissimilar strings less than or equal to 56 characters in length). You should also indicate if this is going to be your client master server. If you don't know yet, just say yes, and let rats_support@email know if you change your mind.

Step 4) Read the documentation on the parts you wish to install. The document on the configuration file is a MUST.

Step 5) Alter the default configuration file to have the appropriate settings for your machine.

Step 6) Try creating an account. We are still waiting on test users to be entered into the PDB, so in the meantime, you can try deleting a users account (your own, a volunteer) and recreating it with RATS, you can run in crypt mode so you do not mess up their kerberos principal, or you can get a volunteer who needs an account on your system anyway and doesn't have one. The main limitation here is that you can undo all the steps of account creation except the part where the kerberos principle os set.

Step 7) Make sure you have the support contact information written down, and you should probably join the unix_admin@email mailing list because that is one of the places we always remember to notify about a new RATS package.

Step 8) Read the documentation again. If you are still really lost, the config file is just perl, and there are many good web resources on understanding that. Asking for help is OK too, but these two things might make it a lot easier for us to help you.
