The RATS server is a daemon running on a central server that provides access to the data in the people database and kerberos through a defined API. By centralizing access to Oracle and Kerberos, several security and maintenance benefits are realized. The elements of Oracle required to connect to the PDB need only be maintained in one place, and access to them can be put behind more stringent security measures (such as enigmatized only access). Similar benefits are achieved for Kerberos as well. Hopefully, it will also limit potential damage to the PDB's data by restricting developers to an existing set of calls to the PDB, and logging their access to the server.
